Losing the subject? Reframe in cinemaOS turns a horizontal shot into a vertical one with a tracked camera move instead of a fixed crop. This tutorial makes a 9:16 version of a Sintel close-up and corrects the framing where the tracker needs help.
Steps
- Open Reframe. Open Frame, then Reframe, and choose the vertical composition. The original 16:9 picture stays untouched; the vertical version is a camera move over it.
- Let Track Main Subject propose a move. Track Main Subject follows the subject through the shot and proposes a camera path. Treat it as a proposal, not a result.
- Review the movement. Play through the shot. Check headroom and the moments when the subject changes direction, because that is where a tracker drifts.
- Refine the framing. Set a camera key where the framing needs help. A vertical version should still feel composed, not cropped. Change the frame and keep the story clear.
Notes
- In the recording the tracker produced 67 camera samples with lower confidence towards the tail of the shot. The demonstration reviews that result and sets a camera key at 4 seconds (Center X 70 percent, Y 50 percent) so the face stays framed in the final export.
- No automatic tracking is claimed as perfect. Review the whole shot before you deliver.
